Glass

Conservatories with glass in the roof certainly look classier as well as having many advantages over polycarbonate. Being a lot quieter when it rains, letting more light into the adjoining room that the conservatory is attached too and if the right type of glass is specified, giving better insulation in winter whilst helping to keep the conservatory cooler in summer.

However, you must be careful about the type of double glazed unit that is specified for your conservatory, although our ‘ULTIMATE’ glass is the best of the high tech glasses that can be fitted, giving 75% heat reduction and providing insulation that is nearly equivalent to an insulated cavity wall, many do not come near to this specification. See the table below for the most commonly used glass units.

SOLAR HEAT REFLECTION

This is the percentage of total solar energy (or heat from the sun) not able to pass through the glass. The higher the solar heat reflection the cooler the conservatory will be inside.

U-VALUE

This is used to measure internal heat loss during colder periods. The lower the number the greater the insulation.

SELF CLEANING

The unique ‘Activ’ coating reacts with UV rays in sunlight to generate a photocatalytic process that loosens & breaks down organic dirt particles on the surface of the glass.

The surface of the coating is hydrophilic. Therefore instead of forming droplets it attracts water so that it spreads & forms a thin film that ‘sheets’ away quickly & dries off without leaving unsightly “drying spots”.

EASY CLEAN

Easy clean glass surface treatment is a mixture of Alkyl Polysiloxanes suspended in Alcohol with a catalyst.

When applied to a glass surface a chemical reaction takes place bonding the Alkyl polysiloxanes to the surface creating water which will then run off the surface, carrying away any deposits or pollutants suspended within it.
