Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate roofs for conservatories come in three main
thickness. 16mm triple wall and 25mm/35mm six wall.
At all costs do not have a conservatory built with 16mm polycarbonate.
It does not have adequate insulation, with a ‘U’
value of 2.7 it looses too much heat and it is extremely noisy
when it rains.
25 mm or 35 mm polycarbonate have pretty much the same insulation
properties with a ‘U’ value of 1.5, although they
will still be noisy when it rains, it is not as bad as the
16mm.
Polycarbonate is available in Opal, Heatshield, Clear and
Bronze.

The main types of polycarbonate which we recommend
are Opal for White conservatories and Heatshield for
Woodgrain conservatories. Both give good light transmission
as well as offering decent protection against heat build
up.
Unless the conservatory is in a shaded location we
would not recommend Clear (not strictly clear more opaque),
due to heat build up when the sun is out and the Bronze,
due to the colour acting as a heat sink, we do not recommend
at all. |
